As part of its thought leadership activities PrimeTimers held a cross-sector conference in September 2005, entitled 'Leveraging business skills for the third sector.' Amongst the challenges for the third sector was an invitation for organisations to join together to campaign for an integrated lifelong learning approach to third sector education with the question.

University - a PrimeTimers Inquiry: A Preliminary Report
In November 2006 PrimeTimers
undertook an initial assessment of the support for the possible
establishment of a new civil society university. Interviews were
conducted with 15 leading representatives from a diversity of third
sector organisations. The support received as a result of these
interviews encouraged PrimeTimers to continue to support and develop
